Cupro is a biodegradable textile fibre. It is made from short cotton seed fibres that cannot be processed into cotton yarn and would otherwise end up as waste. For a long time, the production of cupro was prohibited as it required copper and ammonia. However, the Japanese company Asahi Kasei has optimised the production of cupro to the extent that the large quantities of water and chemicals remain in a closed loop until they are completely exhausted. The chemicals used are then free from toxic or hazardous compounds for health and the environment. Moya Kala's Turkish supplier weaves the fibres from Japan into a fabric characterized by a silky and luxurious feel.
